A beautiful Seoul Wedding:  Shilla Hotel, Dynasty Hall Wedding

South Korea, Seoul, Jung-gu, Jangchung-dong, 동호로 249

Shilla Hotel is supposedly the “best” hotel in Seoul and being part of The Leading Hotels of the World, my expectations were high to say the least.

It is affiliated with the Samsung Group and started operations in March of 1979.

In addition, it houses world renowned restaurant La YEON (opened in Aug. 2013) which was inaugurated with 3 Michelin Stars.

I also had the honor of experiencing their French restaurant, Continental (link)

A dear friend of mine had her wedding at the Dynasty Hall on the most perfect evening in May.

Final Thoughts: I can see why this venue is one of the best places to have a wedding. The hall was absolutely beautiful. There was a high staff to guest ratio, which is seldom these days.

However, there are some negative points that I noticed and experienced. I was a little disappointed that during the course meal, they forgot to bring the third dish to my friend and I. As we were patiently waiting and chit-chatting, the dish never came, even making multiple requests to various servers. However, they did hustle and fixed the problem immediately.

In terms of the quality of food, I felt it was pretty mediocre, and frankly, the texture of the steak was like rubber. Those who know me know that I always devour steak, but I would have to say this is the first time I didn’t consume every bite.

Lastly, from afar, the flowers looked lovely and picture perfect. However, when I looked at it closely, I would say that a lot of the flowers were already wilted. I couldn’t help but wonder if these flowers have been recycled from other wedding or even a day old.

Shilla is definitely within the range of a good 5-star hotel, but nothing exceptional after that.
